most digest forms of email lists work like so: every so many Kb of
accumulated email, or every N number of accumulated emails, a digest
is mailed out to each recipient containing said accumulated
posts.

Nice digests are formated in proper MIME using multipart/digest (not
hard) and email programs like VM in emacsen, e.g., display the digest
as if they were their own mail folders. this way it is exceedingly
easy to follow a thread, or skip posts which have no interest at the
moment, etc.

roottalk is a high enough volume list taht digest versions would be
most welcome. i'd be happy to work with anyone you suggest if you
would like to implement this feature.
