Hi Peter,

   in principle bits 0-23 are user bits that can be used by any class.
Some of the ROOT classes use some of these bits (see for example TNode.h
where bit 17 is used). In principle you can re-use also bits 0-13 
as long as your objects don't do graphics (most of the EObjBits
are used in the canvas management). Just grep the source and check where
a bit is used.
