[ROOT] reading txt files with root on windows nt

I am running root on Windows NT and I am having problems reading in a txt file when I use a windows machine, though it works fine on a Linux machine. At first I thought it was because root wasn't recognizing the end of the text file or something. Now, I think the problem may be something else because the program still won't read the data correctly, and the tutorials that came with root that read in data from a file will not run properly either. I get the same error as in my program ("param[0]=[0]" or "illegal number of data points [0]".) I am wondering if I missed something in the set up? Many of the tutorials run fine but others give the errors I mentioned earlier, or "macros...not found in path..."

I am using
Windows/NT/w2000 with VC++ 7.0 (runs with VC++6),compiled with debug info, version 4.00/08 (good old tar file)**WIN32GDKDEBUG

thanks,
Kendra Rand
