Hi Olivier,
My confusion was between the min and max of the axis object, and the min and max of the axis as drawn. In the context of

it sounds like SetLimits changes the drawn limits, without any reference to the limits of the TAxis object.

Maybe a more specific suggestion is that the documentation of SetLimits should explain what happens to the bins when the axis limits are changed, for both the fixed and variable bin sizes. Also, it would be useful to say in the SetLimits documentation that the function can be used to extend the axis range of a TGraph (something that I didn't previously know how to do).
