System hangs with 888 on the CPU display

Your system hangs with 888 showing in the LED display under the CPU box front panel door.

You should never let a machine go into the 888 state. If this happens:

  1. Reboot the machine.
  2. Run crash /dev/hd7/unix .
  3. Run trace (you will probably need your sysadmin to chmod 4555 and chown root.system on trace in order to inspect /dev/hd7).
Running trace will produce a kernel stack trace of where your system crashed. The trace should be submitted to IBM for inspection.
NOTE /dev/hd7 is where Taligent locates the
system dump space. If this is different on your machine, adjust the argument to the crash command accordingly.
