Tools introduction

When building a CommonPoint application, you must use the tools that Taligent provides. Though it may be tempting to substitute your own tools for some tasks, you will find that the Taligent tools have been designed to work together cohesively.

Chapter 8, "The Taligent build environment for AIX," and Chapter 9, "Taligent build tools," describe the build process and document each of the tools you will use when building your application. Be sure to read Chapter 8 to get an understanding of the tasks to perform when building your program.

One of the build tools is CreateMake. CreateMake generates makefiles for the build environment. To do that, CreateMake follows the instructions you provide. Each of the instructions is described in Chapter 10, "CreateMake keywords."

Once your program is built, you can track down problems with the debugger. To use the debugger, read Chapter 11, "The Xcdb debugger."
