When you run the Root executable module, you get a banner like:

  *          http://root.cern.ch            *
  *                                         *

FreeType Engine v1.1 used to render TrueType fonts.
Compiled with thread support.

CINT/ROOT C/C++ Interpreter version 5.14.25, Nov 25 1999
Type ? for help. Commands must be C++ statements.
Enclose multiple statements between { }.
root [0] 

The CINT version is always printed.
