[ROOT] problems running ROOT through a Windows X-server

Dear Rooters,

Some time ago (running version 2.0 of ROOT on Linux or HP) I could use
ROOT on a Windows machine through an X-server without any problem.
However, from version 2.2 on (due to the inclusion of TGX11TTF I guess
...), when I try to draw some simple graphics, like plotting a histogram
or a function, I get the following (long) error:
