New RPMS of ROOT 3.00.01 are available for RedHat Linux 6.1 Intel at ftp://ftp.slac.stanford.edu/users/langston/root/3.00.01 that fix a problem with rootcint. These RPMS are "release 2" of ROOT 3.00.01, are marked accordingly. The "release 2" RPMS are updates to the RPMS that were made available on 2001.01.02 (which were tagged as "release 1" of ROOT 3.00.01). You only need to upgrade to the "release 2" RPMS if you need to run rootcint. If all you do is run the root executable, then the "release 1" RPMS are fine. The reason for "release 2" of the RPMS is due to a bug in the "--enable-rpath" option to ROOT's hand written configure script. I had previously used my own customization to the ROOT build system when making past RPMS, but tried to use the new "--enable-rpath" option for the latest release of ROOT. I have had to go back to my old customization to the ROOT build system for "release 2" to make rootcint work properly. Unfortunately, ROOT's hand written configure script is unable to distinguish between the build directory, source directory and install directory like Autoconf does. Therefore, it won't work with package building software (e.g. RPM packages, deb packages, etc.). Rene and/or Fons, you may want to add a note to this effect in the ROOT README file(s).
