In response to your question, we decided to write a new chapter in the documentation describing the objects ownership in ROOT. You can find a pdf file for this chapter at: http://root.cern.ch/root/ObjectOwnership.pdf This will be integrated in a new version of the Users Guide shortly. We are also extending the documentation on the I/O system in general to reflect the current functionality and also the current developments.
