[ROOT] Locking TCanvas

Hi All,

Is there a convenient way to "lock" a canvas (i.e., prevent a canvas from
being redrawn)?  For example, when I create a GUI with a canvas, I
generally do not want anything but the GUI to draw onto that canvas. 
However, if I start a TTree Viewer, it will overdraw the GUI canvas unless
I create a new canvas.  Any suggestions?
