Hi Thomas, The top 8 bits of fBits are reserved for the system. All other bits are free for user classes. Note, however, that if your class derives from another ROOT class using the non-system bits, you should take that into account. We are currently adding this information in the new documentation that will be aavailable at the time of the ROOT workshop in June.
