Hi Parker,
The "Getting Started With ROOT" document is out of date, and because it
was a precursor to the ROOT User's Guide, it is not maintained.

The Users's Guide is frequently updated. The most current version is at:
http://root.cern.ch/root/RootDoc.html

and we are working on the updates for ROOT 3.1.
