A new release (0.2.0) of the Java API for reading Root files is now available. The details can be found at:

http://java.freehep.org/lib/freehep/doc/root/index.shtml

This API may be useful for anyone wanting to access Root files from Java, for example to use a Java GUI, Java Event Display, Java analysis tool, or to make use of one of the many scripting languages now available to Java.

At the same time a new Root DIM for Java Analysis Studio has been released, which allows Root files to be analyzed in JAS.

Instructions on using the JAS DIM, plus a number of standalone demo programs and examples are given at the web address above.

This release is a big improvement over earlier releases since it makes full use of the StreamerInfo objects embedded in Root files. (As a consequence it only works with files written with Root 3.0 or later). However this release should still be considered in "alpha" status. We are very interested in feedback, especially if you find Root files which cannot be read, or have suggestions for extended functionality.
