Dear ROOT'ers, I'd like to reiterate on an issue raised some time earlier: right now it is only possible to combine into TChain files which have extention ".root", otherwise one gets the following diagnostics: Error("AddFile","a chain element name must contain the string .root"); We are thinking about storing the ROOT files with the trees in there in the data handling system and writing them to tape. An immediate consequence of this is that freedom of choosing the file names and extentions at random goes away and we no longer can have files with their extentions being ".root". At the same time we'd like to continue chaining the trees stored in the files. So let me ask the question about what is the limitation which requires chained files to have predefined extention (.root) once again, thanks a lot, Pasha
