 More likely the files were corrupted when you transfered/unpacked it.
 This is the first thing to check.

  You can check your files with "LIB" or "DUMPBIN" utilities.
   On another hand you still may face the "backward compatibility" problem.
  I doubt VC6 produces the  files those are backward compatible with VC++ 5.

This means you should try to recompile the entire ROOT yourself
But first check whether you got the files properly.
