Hi Eberhard, I am building the Alpha versions of ROOT on the AMS machines at CERN. This machine is running 4.0.D with cxx version 6.2 Apparently the "official" versions at CERN are 4.0.F with cxx version 6.1 ! However, we know that cxx6.1 is a buggy compiler. I have rebuild the bin/root executable front-end by linking explictly with a libXpm.a library instead of the system libXpm.so. The new tar file is now available on the Web. I have also installed it under AFS. Please let me know if this fixes your problem.
