Hi Niels, is this RH7.1 or RH7.0? I've no problems compiling on RH 7.0 with patched gcc 2.96 and with RH7.1 with out of the box 2.96 (although RH just released a bug fix release of gcc for the RH7.1). Cheers, Fons.
