Hi Philippe, Thanks for having a look. When I run the macro from a root session it works. I have histograms, as you have seen, and I can read them, plot them etc. When I quit that root session, start a new one, and read in the file test.root all it contains is the directory. *** Unlike your test, there were no histograms in the root file *** *** when opened in a new root session. *** Similarly, if I compile the macro and run it as an executable all I have in the test.root file is the directory. What I want to have is a permanent record of these histograms in the root file so they can be accessed at a later date. This is why I think I do not understand the scope rules. I am not saving anything. > > Hi Karl, > > I tried your macro with root 3.01.06 and 3.02.02 and found that it > did produce a file test.root that contains a dozen of histogram in > the top directory and another 40 histogram in the Raw_Ge subdirectory. > I was able to access them all in a new root session. > > Could you be more specific in what actually failed? > > Cheers, > Philippe. > Hope this clarifies my problem. cheers, Karl ========================================================================== CEA Saclay, DAPNIA/SPhN Phone : (33) 01 69 08 7553 Bat 703 - l'Orme des Merisiers Fax : (33) 01 69 08 7584 F-91191 Gif-sur-Yvette E-mail : khauschild@cea.fr France karl_hauschild@yahoo.co.uk WWW: http://www-dapnia.cea.fr/Sphn
