To be more specific, reproduce the problem via:

 - compile HEAD version of ROOT, compile test/guiviewer
 - start guiviewer
 - click on the shape buttons
 - notice nothing shows up
 - right click on the central canvas and (un) select "SetEditable"
 - notice that the shapes show up
 - try adding more shapes
 - notice they aren't added
 - select "SetEditable" again
 - notice shapes all disapear
 - click on shape buttons again
 - unselect "SetEditable"
 - notice the new shapes show up

I just checked v3-02/02 and things are working there.  I looked at the
ChangeLog following this release but I didn't see anything glaringly
obvious.  The last HEAD that I check out that worked was ca. Oct
17/18.
