Dear Rene, I am still think this list for the technical discussion since it is the list of what the ROOT owners claim is "Free Software" made by "Bazaar" method. > Now to Valery, I will say the following: > Four years ago, Fons and myself could not convince you to implement a TVirtualX > interface under Windows. I was never against to provide any kind assistance to do what you find useful. I did AGREE to help to imeplement your approach. That's true I was able to complete what you asked to do myself The real reason is very simple. STAR experiment I am working for doesn't use Windows operating system at all (just for MS Office and Exceed) By this reason I could do what I could do with my spare time. I always told you should find somebody else to deal with Windows version. didn't I ? > You were making the point that Microsoft had developed > a powerful browser, etc and that we should make an interface with the MS > browser. The idea to use some Windows operating system feature had been implemented with ActiveRoot. I found nothing wrong with ActiveROOT. > We lost many years of effort in this exercise. Which exercises did you mean ? I I had had some ideas 5 years ago that I never had chance to implement. Are you claiming my proposal was so poweful to stop Rene Brun for 4 years ? I did my best to answer all questions the people may have had about ROOT Windows interface. < IIt would have been better to > develop a solid TVirtualX interface on Windows together with stdin/stdout > support that requires threads. I don't think stdin / stdout support does require any thread. It was more simple for me to do with thread 7 years ago though. (By the way I don't know whether it works on Linux. Can one call printf from the different threads for example ? ) > It is my feeling that you Myself had proposed nothing but some information on Qt as a response to some user questions on this list. > are proposing to embark again into one more high > level interface to Qt (the one who is fashionable today). Where did you find such MY proposal ? Please elaborate. I did say: http://root.cern.ch/root/roottalk/roottalk01/3861.html " . . . So Qt is pretty attractive, however it is not mandatory to change ROOT to be able to use Qt. This can be done the way Go4 does. I mean ROOT graphics is provided by TVIrtualX implementation the rest GUI with Qt. In fact it is the way QGLWidget works.. . . " I can add again if it was not clear: "It is the user choice and it doesn't require any change of ROOT" > May be we will meet > again in 4 years to discuss, yet, one more high level interface with Super_Sexy_G ::) > You provided your "wish list" to "Qt & GUI " thread and I replied with some information on Qt I have learned. What was wrong with that ? Thank you. Valeri
