Just to add a little in this discussion. In the PROOF system which we
are currently implementing we will also support the parallel analysis
of any kind of objects in a TFile (in addition to parallel TTree
analysis) via a TSelector class. The modus operandus is that
your TSelector::Process() method will be called once for all specified
objects in the set of files. In the Process() method you can do what
ever analysis you like and create objects (e.g. histograms) that will be
send back to the user session. This is a purely analysis system and
although you could create files in the Process() method it does not
solve the transaction and locking issues discussed in this thread.
