Hi guys, it is rather strange for me that the message by Valery Fine has not produced any feedback (so far). Whenever you like Qt/its concept or not, this is the great achievement which can bring a number of consequences into root world. 1. - it solves root windows GUI problem (I saw the latest GDK release and there must be a lot of work put into development to get a stable working version) on a very advanced level. 2. - it brings an unified Qt interface to windows/linux world. Denis & co made a great job porting root/qt on linux but their solution is not a cross platform solution. 3. - there are many options how to deal with Qt on windows: - you can buy it (nothing for a big collaboration, you also get a significant discount) - you can use Qt free release for windows if you comply with Qt license - you can work and do all the job on Linux but be sure that once you need to switch to Windows (or make a product for windows platform) you just need to get Qt for windows and recompile the code. 4. - once a low level interface to Qt is developed, we have a guaranteed support: trolltech will stay for sure on the market for another five years at least, we have all the sources available and we will get beautiful and developing GUI for free. 5. This version of Qt interface works with CINT, i.e. you can create Qt widgets the same way you create root widgets. I am hereby asking Rene and Fons to take Valery's development seriously and include it in standard ROOT distribution as an alternative option. Sincerely, Anton
