I suggest using simply TROOT::ProcessLineFast. Example
TAxis *axis = (TAxis*)gROOT->ProcessLineFast("hist.GetXaxis()")
Simply encode the instruction you want to execute in your remote procedure.
ProcessLineFast returns a long. You can cast it to the final type directly.
