[ROOT] fitting a TGraph in a range

Is there any reason why we can't easily fit a TGraph to a specific x
range?  I know I can just make a function or copy the needed points to
another TGraph, but I'm wondering if this functionality could be
implemented (and why it hasn't - maybe there's some odd case I'm not
considering which makes this non-trivial...).  Sorry to be a nag.  =)
