Thinking "subject-oriented" way: it is clear that today ROOT is a HEP-oriented (not to forget - HEP-funded) project, so it is not a surprise that its development is driven by the HEP needs, where HEP stands for High Energy Physics, and not by numerous Linux initiatives. It it completely not obvious in which way the HEP community could benefit from this port. Even if there were such benefits, it seems very unlikely that the community (and thus - the funding agencies) could be convinced in that on a short term time scale. -best, Pasha
