Hello,
The port of root to VMS was "given up" 2-3 years ago. We ran into
problems reconcilling the way root loads shared libraries to the way VMS
does in default form. In addition, during the course of the time we
were working on the port, it slowly became clear to us that VMS had no
real future in nuclear physics. The final nail in the coffin was a disk
crash that caused us to lose the last of our modifications and efforts
on the shared library front
As far as I can tell, the modifications we made to port root to VMS have
been carried along and are in the vms directory in the root cvs
directory. If someone wants to continue the project, all that we did,
for whatever it is worth, is still there (minus what we lost in our disk
crash) I would welcome that, but unfortunately would problably not even
use it because we have migrated so far away from VMS and the Itanium VMS
due out next year would have to present a very convincing argument for
us to return to it.
