Ooops! Thanks a lot, that works a lot better... as long as you delete the histograms after doing an "Update" of the canvas, otherwise you don't see anyhing at all. So I guess the lesson is that the TFile::Get(char *) method doesn't just send back a pointer to the desired object, but a pointer to a copy of the object for which it allocated some memory.
