Hi Frederic,

When using combinations of basic functions, you have to give
initial values to the parameters. For the simple case that you describe,
the initial values do not have to be very close to the solution, but
some initial values must be specified.
Note that you can determine the initial values by fitting separately
the background. See examples in the tutorials.
