Hi, there were several times a request to access FITS files from the ROOT interpreter. We at the INTEGRAL Science Data Centre (ISDC) develop software to analyze and process data from an astronomical satellite called INTEGRAL. All our data are stored in FITS files and therefore we have developed tools to access the FITS files within ROOT. These tools are linked now in a library called AstroROOT. http://isdc.unige.ch/index.cgi?Soft+astroroot We plan to maintain this new library and to include more astronomical related ROOT classes into this AstroROOT library in the future.
