Hi Rene, it was indeed a very nasty mixture of old Dict files, an old installation of root in /usr/local which was mentioned in /etc/ldconfig, so a wrong LD_LIBRARY_PATH did not result in libraries not being found and trying to get it run at CERN and LLR at the same time. After you told me it worked at CERN, I finally succeeded in getting it running there, too. And after finding the old root-installation in /usr/local I also managed it here. There are definitely too many ways such an installation of root can break, using a new version is always an adventure... Concerning gcc3.2, the problem is simply that it is not installed here at LLR.
