Hi Rene:
I try:
root [0] TH1F h1("h1","histo from a gaussian",100,-3,3);
root [1] h1.FillRandom("gaus",1000);
root [2]  h1.Draw();
<TCanvas::MakeDefCanvas>: created default TCanvas with name c1
root [3] gStyle->GetStatFontSize()
(const Float_t)0.00000000000000000e+00
root [4] gStyle->SetStatFontSize(.2)
root [5]  h1.Draw();
root [6] h1.SetStats(0)
root [7]  h1.Draw();

// the statistics box is gone !!!

root [8] gStyle->GetStatFontSize()
(const Float_t)2.00000002980232239e-01
root [9] h1.SetStats(1)
root [10]  h1.Draw();
// statistics box appears again but unchanged!!!

-thanks for looking into this,
regards,
Swagato
