Numeric labels are drawn on the primary tick marks. There is no way to 
remove them. If you increase the labels size so much that they overlap 
the only ways I can see to bypass the problem are:

- increase less
- reduce le number of *primary" ticks. You can still have many 
  secondary and tertiary ticks.
- change the labels orientation.
