[ROOT] OSX : shared object library

Using Root 3.05 on a Mac G4, OS 10.2.3
I have downloaded the binary of root, this runs OK. I should like to  
compile a shared object library. The makefile I have been given (which 
works on linux) clearly will not do it, and I understand I need .dylib 
and .so files.
What compiler/linker options are necessary? Do I need some additional 
library utility software?
