Re: [ROOT] News about PROOF

Hi Frank,

PROOF is coming along nicely and can already be used for beta tests.
However, there are still several important things we need to implement
and refine before we can announce the system ready for general use. One
of them is solving the TSelector::Process issue (we want to phase out
the use of ProcessCut and ProcessFill but do this in a backward
compatible way). Also we want to have available the TChain::Draw()
command which will provide a very simple and powerful interface to
PROOF.

On a grander scale, we have a prototype running interfaced to CONDOR and
the AliEn grid middleware which allows PROOF to run in parallel on
different sites and clusters. This prototype was needed to validate the
basic PROOF architecture.

Once PROOF is ready for general use (before the end of this year) we
will announce it on this mailing list and the ROOT forum.

Cheers, Fons.
