Dear Sirs

I have a problem when installing ROOT in my computer. I have not system
privileges and my computer has a Red Hat 8.0 system. I tried to
install both 3.10.01 and 3.04.02 versions (downloaded from root html
page) without succes.
With 3.10.01 version, I tried to build Redhat Linux packages: after
having followed all you prescriptions in README/INSTALL. I gave these two
commands in my /home/<username>/root-3.10.01 directory:

1) make redhat

2) rpmbuild -ba root.spec

as answer of last command I received the message:

...........

.........

RPM build errors:

------------------------------------------------------------------

and I noticed that in the directory /home/<username>/redhat/BUILD the
sub - directory /home/<username>/redhat/BUILD/root-3-10.01 was created.

When I tried to install the ROOT version 3.04.02 and I performed
(in the directory /home/<username>/root-3.04.02) the same
procedure described above I received the message:

.....

directory
error: Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.19050 (%prep)

------------------------------------------------

and I noticed that viceversa the subdirectory:

/home/urciuoli/redhat/BUILD/root

was created

I also tried to instal ROOT 3.10.01 version giving (after defining , as in
the previous cases, ROOTSYS and adding $(ROOTSYS)/bin to the PATH
and LD_LIBRARY_PATH) the commands

1). /configure linux

2) gmake

and I received this answer:

........

I would be very grateful if you would help me to solve this problem.

Yours faithully

Guido Urciuoli
