Hi Vincent,

Are you saying that the compiler gcc 3.3.3 is broken and should not be used?

If this is the case how is it broken?

Did you try with ROOT 4.00/02?

Cheers,
Philippe.

Hi,

I have been compiling root with GNU c compiler release 3.3 debian
(gcc-3.3 (GCC) 3.3.3 20040214 (prerelease) (Debian))
the compilation proceeded very well without problem and root worked fine at
first sight. But when playing with trees I got into serious trouble.
Filling and writing a tree in a file worked well, appending to it a also,
data
looked fined, but trying to append again some more (writing a third time)
resulted in an error that took me a while to understand (because everything
else wasworking fine). I first thought it was my own responsability, then
the
ROOT APIs but realised the problem was comming from my compiler. I
downgraded
to gcc-3.0.4 and everything's running ok now. I just wanted to mention that
point.

PS:
I tried to downgrade to gcc 2.95-4 (debian) but unfortunately I could not
proceed the compilation untill the end because of an implicit class method
declaration. Maybe this is comming from my configuration.
- - all this was with root 3.10-2 and 3.10-2cvs

Vincent
