[ROOT] exponential fit

Dear Rooters!

I have got the following problem with fitting a histogram.
I want to use an exponetial fit like a*(x-const)^b where a and b are fit
parameters. b is between 0 and 1. I couldn't see any result with such a
fit. I tried the following:

(1) a*sqrt(x-const)
what worked fine, then I tried

(2) a*(x-const)^(1/2)
what DOES NOT give a fit.

Actually I don't see any mathematical difference between (1) and (2).
Where is my mistake?

Yours

Falk

P.S.: I am running Root version 3.03/09 10 October 2002
under i386_linux24 based on the SuSE 7.2.
