[ROOT] making a histogram frame smaller

Dear ROOT,

This seems like an elementary question to me, but I can't find the
answer anywhere; my apologies if I missed it.

I'm plotting histograms, and I want to enlarge the fonts on the axis
labels and titles. Easy enough, but then they start to run outside the pad,
and I can't see them. It looks like the solution would be to shrink the
histogram frame -- something I think is the TFrame. Then the pad would stay
the same size, and I'd have more room for my lettering. But I cannot figure
out who actually owns the frame -- the histogram or the pad -- and then
despite fooling with SetBorderSize, I can't seem to actually change the size
of the frame. Can someone help? Thanks, best wishes.
