[ROOT] Carrot: no plots available

Dear Carrot users,

I tried to install Carrot, and in the end all the examples worked fine
until the ones where plots/browsers/histograms are involved. In that case
there is no reaction from the browser, while in the apache error log
the following message appears:

for the example graph.C:
Error: Function zdemo() is not defined in current scope
FILE:/tmp/root_apache_23228.C LINE:33
< Possible candidates are...

For the example hsimple1.C:
< *** Interpreter error recovered ***
< Error: Function BIT(6) is not defined in current scope
FILE:/usr/local/root/include/TPad.h LINE:142
< Possible candidates are...
< filename line:size busy function type and name

And so on.
Examples like Hello.C work fine.

My apache version is apache1.3.29, ROOT version is 4.01.02, Carrot 1.0.7,
Redhat 7.3 (similarly for RH Fedora Core 1).

Carrot was configured with --with-gs=/usr/bin/ option
       also with --with-convert=/usr/bin/X11
(all correct directories).

I probably am missing something trivial and any help would be very
welcome.
