Hi Boris,

 $ROOTSYS/etc/system.rootrc is typically read-only for many users using
 a standard group or lab) installation.
 $HOME/.rootrc is a convenient place to define your own settings that 
 are valid for all your applications.
 .rootrc is convenient when you want to customize some settings for a 
 particular application.
