RE: problem installing root5.10.00

Hi,  

Currently the win32 build of ROOT does not work from a cygwin xterm. You have to start it
from a regular windows cmd.exe window.

trying to install the win32gdk binary for root5.10.00 leads to problems:

The platform I use:

Windows XP professional
VC++ 8.0
cygwin

ROOTSYS, PATH, INCLUDE, LIB, LIBPATH
variables are properly set and root seems to run fine from a cmdtool prompt - but not from a cygwin xterm prompt.

>From a cygwin xterm prompt, I can e.g. compile all the test macros in
root/test by simply typing make (which uses the VC++ 8.0 compiler cl.exe). These test programs run fine, give output to stdout and open canvases and the like as expected.
However, starting root, gives me the root splash screen and the standard root greeting - but *no root prompt*!!

CINT/ROOT C/C++ Interpreter version 5.16.8, February 9, 2006

Enclose multiple statements between { }. <---- NO prompt appearing.

Anyone ever seen something the like? I.e. not getting the prompt after all is initialized.
(I removed also my local .rootrc in order to be sure it does not cause any problems).

btw - compiling root natively (using VC++8.0 and typing ./configure win32 and make from a cygwin prompt leads to a compile error:
