There are many examples showing that this is not true. Significant number of Web Service applications is written in Java (almost none are in C++), Java is used extensively in NASA (for example in the Mars project). And we have quite large applications also in HEP - many based on FreeHEP framework. You may be mistaken by the fact that when using FreeHEP you are not forced to load all of that, so your application in not as "large" as Root while it implements the same functionality.

Many people have spend already a lot of time in arguments about Root problems. I certainly did, Guy Barrand did, FreeHEP team did,... People working in LHC experiments (as I do) are very well aware of serious Root problems, but:
- don't have time to discuss them because they have to fix them - are discouraged by the fact that no serious discussion about Root

   alternatives is allowed in LCG/AA (CERN official LHC software project)

Otherwise, I certainly agree with most of your points.
