".x" and ".X" commands do the same?

Dear ROOTers,

according to the ROOT ".help" command ".x file.C" should simply evaluate statements from the file.C (like they are typed in the ROOT command line), and ".X file.C" should load file.C and execute the function
"file()". However both ".X" and ".x" are looking for the function
"file()" in the file.C and complain if the the function isn't found.
What's wrong? I'm using ROOT5.11 on SLC3.06.
