Re: installing root from source using visual C++

i didn't set the VC_MAJOR var by hand.

i typed that command
"
( unset VS_UNICODE_OUTPUT ; cl.exe 2>&1 | \ awk '{ if (NR==1) print $$8 }' | \
cut -d'.' -f1 )
"
and there was no response to my typing this in, but it seems like it has caused make to be much more verbose, which i take it is the desired effect of the command.

probably obvious, but the command doesn't work in DOS so the DOS makelog is not verbose like the cygwin log is.

DOS makelog: http://minos.phy.tufts.edu/glocke/rootstuff/mymakelog11-6_1_DOS cygwin makelog:
http://minos.phy.tufts.edu/glocke/rootstuff/mymakelog11-6_1_cygwin

I added the line 'SHELL=bash -x' to the Makefile during the cygwin build but not during the DOS build.

thanks again,
George
