I just ran them, with the following results:

glViewerExercise:
This error on closing the canvas. Repeated in infinite loop. Root must be killed from other terminal.
Error: Symbol gPad is not defined in current scope /usr/local/share/doc/root/tutorials/gl/glViewerExercise.C:47: Error: Failed to evaluate gPad->GetViewer3D() *** Interpreter error recovered ***

glViewerLOD: OK

glbox: moving the mouse triggers a seg fault; closing the canvas crashes root. Errors look the same as in my original post. The xterm in which root was run responds to, but no longer echos, keyboard input.

glrose: as glbox but crashes immediately, mouse movement not required.

glsurfaces: as glbox but crashes immediately, mouse movement not required.

gltf3: as glbox but crashes immediately, mouse movement not required.

viewer3DLocal.C:

Error: Function set_new_handler(0) is not defined in current scope  defalloc.h:68:
Error: + Illegal operator for pointer 1 _vector.h:234:
Error: class,struct,union or type Rgl not defined  :0:

(last error repeated about 10 times)

viewer3DMaster: same as 3DLocal
