Hi,
I think that the problem may come from the environment: did you include
the ROOT lib path
in LD_LIBRARY_PATH (or added to ld.so.conf) ?
I managed to access a machine like yours (RHE3 with gcc 3.2.3) and
everything worked fine
when I did the following:
$ configure --prefix=/tmp/ganis/root --etcdir=/tmp/ganis/root/etc
$ gmake; gmake cintdlls; gmake install;
...
$ export ROOTSYS=/tmp/ganis/root
$ export PATH=$ROOTSYS/bin:$PATH
$ export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ROOTSYS/lib/root:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
$ root
Compiled on 11 April 2007 for linux with thread support.
CINT/ROOT C/C++ Interpreter version 5.16.19, March 16, 2007 Type ? for help. Commands must be C++ statements. Enclose multiple statements between { }. root [0]
