ROOT 5.16 and OS X 10.4.10

Dear the developers and Mac ROOTers,

I downloaded ROOT 5.16 (pre-compiled for PPC 10.4.8) and tried it but it does not work.

$ root
root[0] TCanvas* can = new TCanvas

This simple command does not work. root.exe uses up almost 100% of my CPU resource.

Do you have any suggestion?

10.4.10 (G4 PPC)
gcc version 4.0.1 (Apple Computer, Inc. build 5367)
