Dear Chiara,
Your observation is correct. We are restructuring the top level
structure to minimize the number
of packages at the top level (now 16 instead of 105). The system is back
compatible.
We are also about to restructure our web site to take advantage of the
new structure.
Concerning libshift.so, this library is not required anymore. Installing
ROOT does not require
the CERNLIB anymore. We provide a very small subset of CERNLIB in our
new directory minicern and the library libminicern.so. Utilities like
h2root use libminicern instead of the big CERNLIB.
More details will be given in the Release Notes. Meanwhile see the
development Notes if you use
the SVN trunk.
