I support this request - we also have a need for building ROOT applications that should be usable without full ROOT being installed, without ROOTSYS being set and with ROOTSYS being set to some other version of ROOT as selected by our end users (obviously such applications can use only a subset of ROOT features, have to be statically linked, etc.)

(P.S. I have no idea what is "Root 1.12" that the original poster refers to).
